Nancy A. Speck, PhD has been appointed the chair holder of the John W. Eckman Professorship of Medical Science II!
Established in 2021, this is the second professorship from an endowment founded in 1989 to honor Rhône-Poulenc Rorer’s retired CEO John W. Eckman. Mr. Eckman, an alumnus of the Wharton School Class of 1943, was a celebrated industrialist committed to the enrichment of Philadelphia’s scientific, cultural, and educational communities. Mr. Eckman was a leader in the pharmaceutical industry for over 35 years who believed strongly that “being a good citizen is good business.”
Nancy epitomizes the spirit and practice of good citizenship on every level. As a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a highly accomplished scientist, and widely recognized international leader in hematology, Nancy is most deserving of this honor. In her career of over 30 years, Nancy has made significant contributions to understanding the role of RUNX1 and CBFβ in normal blood cells. Known as a transformative leader, Nancy is also a dedicated mentor with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Congratulations, Nancy!
